Pregnancy for any woman is a very interesting time where her body undergoes many changes due to the presence of a foetus inside her. But sometimes some women are blessed with not one but two or more children and when a mother expects two babies they are called twins. At 23 weeks, the mother will find many changes in how her body functions and some of these developments may or not be pleasant. It is a great responsibility to carry a child in one’s womb but to carry twins is a whole lot tougher. The womb gets stretched more, the weight of the babies create pains and aches for the mother and at this stage the babies are getting heavier which means the mother needs to take care of herself and the babies. Here are some things one needs to remember if a mother is pregnant with twins at 23 weeks:
- Pains and aches: When a mother is carrying two babies in the womb, she has to carry the weight of two children too. This means that there is increasing pressure from the uterus on the other organs especially the lower back which leads to severe cramps in the back and legs.
- Tightness of abdomen: The increasing size of the uterus also puts pressure on the abdomen which leads to problems in indigestion and heartburn. There can be sudden cramps and a tightening feeling in the abdomen.
- Stretch marks: Although our skin is very elastic, during pregnancy it gets stretched to a large extent and when there are twins, the mother will feel the skin of the belly get stretched and also itchy. Relaxation techniques and a cooling lotion will help in this case.
- Minor exercise: Although most women at this stage feel very exhausted to move around with twins, it is important to do mild exercises.
